John Aufdengarten MSN, MBA

John Aufdengarten has more than 20 years of progressive and diversified experience in health care management, nursing and business administration. He has held several senior administrative positions in both tertiary and community hospitals. John has significant experience designing and implementing effective processes to provide quality patient care services. John has lectured on culture change and customer satisfaction to Arkansas and Kansas health care systems and served on a number of professional boards and task forces. He holds memberships in the American College of Health Care Executives, American Nurses Association and American Organization of Nurse Executives. John received his BS in Nursing from Marymount College of Kansas in Salina, Kansas. He has an MS in Nursing from the University of Colorado and an MBA from Centenary College in Shreveport, Louisiana.

 

Renee E. Broadbent

Ms. Broadbent is a senior level executive with an extensive background in Information Technology and Information Security. She has held the role of Chief Information Officer and Chief Information Security officer in both hospital health systems as well Managed Care MSO organizations. Over her career she has designed and develop corporate IT infrastructures and built and supported a national Health Information exchange as well as Accountable Care Organizations.

 

Most recently, Ms. Broadbent has been engaged with a large academic medical system in the Northeast to develop their ACO and Population Health Strategies as part of the organization’s five year strategic vision. Prior to this position, Ms. Broadbent held the position of CIO and ISO of a national Accountable Care Organization. She was responsible for the build out of a national call center, Health Information Exchange and the national deployment of a proprietary clinician tool. Ms. Broadbent also had the responsibility for heading and managing an internal team to support business operations for the company and co-founded and co-lead the internal team for Privacy and Security to deal with and develop policies and procedures regarding data acquisition on a national level and to develop the infrastructure to support the highest level data security.

 

Ms. Broadbent’s prior experience includes founding and operating a successful New England based IT consulting firm providing business analysis, project management and development to various vertical markets including healthcare, financial services and education. Ms. Broadbent’s diverse business background includes 20 years of meeting healthcare technology challenges, strong regulatory and compliance expertise and a track record of managing complex implementations.

 

She currently sits on several boards including a major university in New England where she participates in the development of the Information Technology Program. She has participated in national panel discussions on security and interoperability. She’s presented throughout New England on HIPAA Security. She holds a BA in Sociology and Business from Elms College. Ms. Broadbent resides with her family in Massachusetts.

 

Elizabeth A. Butler, M.S., R.D.

Ms. Butler is a senior level management professional with an extensive background in hospital operations and project management with a focus on lean six sigma and business process improvement.  She has held the role of Senior Director in both hospital health systems as well Managed Care MSO organizations.

 

Most recently, Ms. Butler is consulting for UMASS Memorial Hospital in the Office of Clinical Integration as a lean project management consultant. The role supports the strategic vision to achieve population health.  Her primary focus is integrating disparate electronic systems and siloed customer facing processes into a single client relations management software tool resulting in effective administration of the provider network. Prior to this, Ms. Butler held the position of General Manager at a large hospital system where she spearheaded the implementation of a highly complex, system-wide project that transitioned the organization from an antiquated paper menu system to cutting edge, computerized room service delivery style with significant positive impact to patient safety and satisfaction. Ms. Butler has also held the position of performance improvement consultant where she was a change agent promoting a system-wide culture of service and innovation that fostered staff involvement in continuous improvement, transparent communications, recognition and high reliability.

 

Ms. Butler’s prior experience includes 20 years of leadership with a large contract company.  Ms. Butler actively thrives as a key member and leader of initiatives that reflect the business objectives. She collaboratively develops strategies and tactics reflective of the vision. She adds value to the customer experience by facilitating lean performance improvement teams targeted on industry best and promising practices.

 

Ms. Butler sits on an advisory board for a large university in New England where she provides input for the Dietetics Program. She holds a B.S. in Dietetics from Rochester Institute of Technology and an M. S. in Allied Health from the University of Connecticut. Ms. Butler is a Certified Lean Facilitator, a Six Sigma Green Belt and is a Certified Business Process Management Professional.  She currently resides in Connecticut with her husband and son.

 

Kathryn M. Land

Kathy has a Managed Care Certification and over 20 years of experience in healthcare organizations. Her background includes extensive experience in patient accounts management, registration redesign, and managed care strategy development and implementation. She is a skilled managed care contract negotiator and has worked with various healthcare settings, including acute care, ambulatory surgery, outpatient, behavioral health, dental, and skilled nursing facilities. Kathy has also worked in collaboration with physicians and a PHO to effect contract terms and rates of reimbursement that addressed the financial and network needs of the parties involved. Her strengths include the development of strong, open relationships with all stakeholders including physicians, third party payers and managed care organizations. She holds a BS degree in Organizational Management from Nyack College in Nyack, New York.

 

Phillip W. Norris

Phillip W. Norris is a senior healthcare finance consultant, with over twenty-five years of experience in the healthcare industry. His strengths involve the turnaround and restructuring of hospitals in serious financial difficulty. He has strong working knowledge of hospital operations, cost controls, revenue enhancements, and productivity measurements. Mr. Norris has experience identifying problems, providing realistic solutions and building organizations capable of functioning in today’s challenging health care environments. His recent accomplishments include:

On three separate occasions Phil has been in charge of facilities that were operating under the protection of the bankruptcy court. Each time the facility was successfully reorganized or liquidated through this process.

Establishing a decision support system allowing management to better evaluate and negotiate managed care contracts; compare treatment costs involving many variables; and formulate financial strategies with a high likelihood of success.

Worked with Bondholders Committee and Investment Bankers to restructure debt in a manner that would be acceptable to bondholders in order to avoid foreclosure or bankruptcy.

Restructured a 400 bed Midwest hospital’s finance division to achieve operational efficiencies, cost savings and improved information reporting. At the same time working with administration to bring about change to all areas of operations achieving a $15 million turn around over 18 months. 

   
Phil is an advanced member of HFMA and past-President of the Gulf Coast Chapter. He has a BBA in Accounting from N. Texas State Univ. in Denton, TX.

 

Peter Spitzer, M.D., MBA, MS

Dr. Spitzer has served as a healthcare, life-sciences and IT executive and consultant for over 30 years. He has held the positions of CIO (Texas Children’s Hospital), CMIO (Providence Health & Services), CTO and General Manager (Aspeon), Chief Science Officer (Ameritech Health Solutions), Senior VP of Client Services (Clinicomp), VP of Strategic Systems (Dendrite), Assistant Prof. of Pediatrics (Baylor College of Medicine), and Assistant Prof. of Medical Informatics (Tromsø University Medical Center). His consulting clients have included AT&T, IBM, Glaxo SmithKline, Baxter, Infomedics, Ameritech, WellPoint, Dendrite/Cegedim, NetApp, VHA/Vizient, and numerous early stage companies. Dr. Spitzer has an MD with honors from Harvard Medical School, a Masters in Computer Science from MIT, an Executive MBA from UCLA, and a Bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Engineering from MIT.
